The Right to Adequate Standard of Living : GO-NGO Forum

jeudi 2 décembre 2010.

The Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines and the Phil NGO-PO Network on ESC Rights have teamed up to promote, popularize and lobby for the 2008 recommendations of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (UNCESCR). These Concluding Observations of the UNCESCR came out in December 2008 after the said committee reviewed the Philippine government report and other information from civil society organizations as to how the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) has been implemented in the country from 1996 – 2005.

In line with this, CHRP and the ESC network sponsored the second GO-NGO Forum on the 2008 Concluding Observations with the theme "The Right to Adequate Standard of Living : GO-NGO Forum on the Concluding Observations of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. This activity was held on November 30, 2010 at the Fersal Place in Quezon City, Philippines.

The CHRP and the NGO-PO Network partnership also aims to foster an inter-agency and multi-stakeholder dynamics revolving around the objective of how government agencies as well as civil society organizations could comply with the UN CESCR recommendations jointly or separately.

Resource persons from the Commission on Human Rights, the Philippine Human Rights Information Center (PhilRights) and Economic, Social and Cultural Rights – Asia (ESCR-Asia) gave their inputs during the morning session. In the afternoon, workshop sessions on the rights to food, work, education, women, housing and indigenous peoples took place.
